Bear Felix († 2025)
Self-confident and curious
Rescued with his brother and his mother
Brown bear Felix came together with his mother Maya (†) and his brother Ben (†) from a German zoo called Schwarzwaldpark Löffingen to our BEAR SANCTUARY Müritz. For many years, the three bears had shared one small concrete enclosure. The bear brothers descend from Lothar (†), the very first bear that got to our sanctuary. He died in 2019.

Favorite thing he did: Playing with his brother Ben.
Wrestling between brothers
Ben and Felix were inseparable as bear brothers. After Ben had to be put down in the summer of 2024, Felix now lives alone.
Felix loved to test his strength during wrestling with his brother. Most of the time, he won, but sometimes Ben was stronger. When these two bears played in the water, it always looked very dramatic.
The brothers looked very alike; it was hard to tell who was who. They spent most of the time together and roamed through the woods. Their bond was so strong that they even sometimes hibernated together in winter.
From shy to self-confident
Felix was about 2 metres tall and looked bigger, but a bit slimmer, than his brother Ben. When Felix first arrived here, he was very shy and reserved. He avoided bears in the surrounding enclosures and withdrew deeper in the forest. But with time, he turned into a self-confident and curious bear.
Felix was usually the first of the brothers who entered a new enclosure. He could often be seen exploring his surroundings. Eager to roam around, he was rarely stationary.

- What the animal caretakers said about me:
Felix could sometimes be very stubborn and tested our patience when we wanted to make him go into another enclosure. In these moments, even food didn't help to convince him.
